The robes from our Uzbek collection are handmade by a small family-owned business in Bukhara, Uzbekistan (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) in the center of the historical Silk Road.
Our silk robes are Uzbek Ikat Adras. Adras is an 80% silk and 20% cotton blend. Adras is the customary silk blend used in Uzbekistan because it guarantees a soft silky premium feel with structural integrity. The designs are called Ikat, which is a term for a fabric that is hand-dyed using a resist dyeing method (natural fruit, vegetable, nuts and plant coloring) and hand-woven on wooden looms using the century’s old traditions of Ikat weaving.
The designs are inspired by the shapes of flowers, leaves, and fruits, and were particularly popular between the early nineteenth century and the beginning of the Soviet period. Because most of our items are hand-dyed and handmade, the colors and patterns displayed on each item may differ slightly but not in a dramatic way. When you purchase an Iyana Ki item, you are truly making a one-of-a-kind fashion statement.
